Record Label Samplers: Whispers From The Forests, Screams From The Mountains

A true sampler, given away with an issue of The Wire. But it’s a record labels sampler — there are three labels represented: Häpna, Ideal Recordings and Kning Disk.

It starts off with a fun little ditty by Hans Appelqvist, and then gives us a brilliant Hammond organ epic from Eric Malmberg, and I’m sold.

Not just because of this sampler, but I finally ended up buying everything released by Häpna — there’s so much brilliant stuff there. Tape, Sheriff, Stephan Mathieu; the list goes on and on.

The Ideal section of the album is very nice, too — it’s mostly drone-based music, but with each track being quite different from the next. And then we round out with some pleasant weirdness from Kning Disk.

As a three label sampler, it works surprisingly well as an album.
